The trade between Dutch and Japanese was started from 425 years ago through Dejima, an island in Nagasaki served as the only gateway of Japan to the world. Nowadays Dejima is taken as an icon for openness and international collaborations in Japan. StartNL Japan is a task force set up by the Netherlands Embassy in Japan, aiming to bridge Dutch startups and Japanese corporates.
This year the Dejima Summit was supported by StartNL Japan and held on September 26 at the Residence of the Dutch Ambassador in Tokyo, with the theme of “bridging sustainability ideas”. More than 60 participants from the Dutch and Japanese corporates joined the event, showcasing new technologies and exploring collaboration opportunities. SeaHiker representant Jan Hoefnagels was invited for a pitch and panel discussion.
There was a lot of attention for SeaHiker’s enabling technologies, especially the single anchor mooring and large component exchange for floating offshore wind turbines, as these really meet critical needs of the Japanese market. Further discussions on possible collaborations with a couple of Japanese corporates and investment funds were triggered.
